Held each year in March, the ABC Kite Fest is one of Austin’s most beloved, family-friendly traditions. Soar into spring and join thousands of Austinites for a free, all-day event filled with kite making, flying and gazing happening March 31.
What began as a simple kite contest in 1929 by The Exchange Club of Austin is now the country's longest running festival of its kind, celebrating its 90th year in 2019. Austin’s annual kite festival was designed to foster creativity in children, giving them an outlet to spend time outdoors, learning and growing. Families can create handmade kites and register them in a contest, participate in a fun run, or listen to MossFest, a children's concert. Recognized as one of the Best Festivals in Texas by TravelMag, the proceeds from the event go toward the Moss Pieratt Foundation and Communities in Schools.
